Certificate of Behavioral Health

program overview

The Behavioral Health Certificate is ideal for those already working, or aspiring to work, in a
residential behavioral health program, such as those through the Department of Children’s Services.
Offered through Carson-Newman’s College of Professional Studies, this fully online 24-credit hour
undergraduate certificate teaches students the clinical skills, counseling techniques, treatment planning,
and other professional development expertise to be eligible for behavioral health technician and support
roles in a variety of mental health and social service settings.

  • Fully online, asynchronous courses

The Field Experience course will require bi-monthly meetings, either in person or virtual, with program
faculty. Credits earned can be applied to an eligible Carson-Newman bachelor’s degree program.


Admissions Requirements

Students who complete the free online application will be required to submit the following for
admission:

  • Official transcript — high school transcript with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (or GED) OR college transcript with min. GPA of 2.0
